Hello, my first post here.
So, recently, my cheap "KOSS" headphones broke (as always with cheap headphones, the cable had a slack joint, rendering the headphones useless), so I decided to go to Media Markt and check out some new ones. I stumbled upon the AKG 514, made in China. Very good sound quality for the price, nothing to complain about.
However, what somehow irritates me is the fact that these headphones are made in China. Now, I really don't like this country, because of their **, not because of their people. I understand that pretty much any country selling actual stuff (not software, for instance) needs to outsource at least a portion of their manufacturing to China in order to remain competitive.
I also firmly believe that there is no noticeable difference in quality between the "Made in Austria" and "Made in China" parts.
Nonwithstanding, paying 400 swiss franks (rougly the same as US dollar) instead of 100 bucks seems a high price to pay. To pay for what? For a clear conscience. I am quite convinced that a factory worker in Austria gets a decent pay for the 40 hours a week he's working. The guy in the chinese factory however.... is a poor one, indeed.
I do not want to slander AKG as a company or its products, as i consider AKG to be a great company and they deserve their good reputation. I just wanted to point out that the "boycotting China" thing really tears a whole through your wallet.

I'm a old customer of AKG products and I loved AKG products so far, because of the high quality AND because it's not produced in China, but in Austria and the pricing reflects that.
I just learned today that all products are now made in China...I'm just...devastated !
I have only few things to say :
- you just lost a customer. Until your products are made again in Europe, I won't buy any AKG-china products anymore.
- I'm really sorry for the AKG people in Europe who lost their jobs because of that.
- I'll try to maintain my AKG products as long as possible to avoid using of chinese spare parts.
- I don't understand why AKG products prices is still that higher: as surxenberg said, the guys in chinese factory are paid a very very small fraction of the austria guys' pay. So any customer would expect a major discount on chinese products. That's why I won't buy any AKG-china products, it's not worth the price anymore.
I'll keep watching AKG website without too much hope !
